Music Programs

There are lots of great clubs to choose from if you are interested in music. These are extra curricular and are offered before or after school in addition to the music within the regular school curriculum. Check out the options below. Since these extra curricular activities are run through the district, you’ll want to check directly with the Lakeridge music teachers or the MISD websites for the most up to date info. Lakeridge Elementary or Islander Middle School

Band and Orchestra (5th Grade)

This is an exceptional musical opportunity for all 5th graders on the island. The middle school offers this program and kids will play an instrument before school a couple days a week. Transportation is provided. This is a great way for the 5th graders to get acclimated to the middle school environment for the following year.

  • Open to:  5th Graders
  • Transportation – The District provides transportation

NOTE: This is NOT a PTA sponsored program. This is offered by the district IMS Band Program.

Choir (4th and 5th Grade)

Choir is open to all 4th and 5th grade students and is held before school one day a week at Lakeridge. Students learn to sing in 2-3 part harmony and how to prepare for a performance. Choir is held from September to March. Further information will be made available to all incoming 4th and 5th graders in September.


  • Veteran’s Day Assembly in November
  • Fall Concert in December
  • All-District Choir Concert in March

Cost: Participation in choir is provided free of charge by the Mercer Island School District.


Steel Drum Band (4th and 5th)

Experience the signature sounds of the Caribbean islands and learn fun, upbeat songs on these unique instruments! The Steel Drum Band performs at a number of school events, including Bingo Night and the December school concert.

Space in the Band is limited and is first come/first serve. Signup info will be made available to students after the start of the school year. Steel Drum Band rehearses once a week. Generally, it runs October through May.

Who Can Enroll?

  • 4th and 5th grade students
  • Space is limited and is first come/first serve; Wait list available if needed

Supply Fee: There will be a minimal supply fee (covers costs such as tuning, music scores, small instrument maintenance and transportation of instruments for performances).

NOTE: This is NOT a PTA sponsored program. This is offered by the DISTRICT so check with the MISD for more information.

Ukulele (4th grade curriculum)

As of the 2017-18 school year, students in 4th grade will play the ukulele as part of the regular music curriculum.
